These are the archived pictures and updates on Maverick.

May 2006: The bowed tendon on his right leg has healed, but the one in his left leg has just begun
to heal.

Maverick will be in rehabilitation for a time. When he has healed he will be evaluated to see if
he can be adopted out or if he will live out the rest of his life here at Equine Recline.

Update August 15, 2006: Maverick's leg is healing, but not as we had hoped. Since he refuses to
keep weight on his left front leg, other than just the toe, the tendon(s) are healing contracted (see
picture below). Two different animal communicators we have talked to in regards to Maverick
have both said that the leg is not painful, but he does not believe the leg will support him, so will
not put his full weight on it.

Right now we are trying everything we can think of: acupressure, massage, stretching, herbs,
aromatherapy, etc. But if these do not help, our only choice may be surgery to cut the tendon(s),
the hope it heals correctly. We are hoping and praying it will not come to that, but will do so if it
becomes a matter of his quality of life.

Since we have started the acupressure and other therapies we have noticed some small
improvements in his leg. He is beginning to not only accept, but to ask for his leg to be stretched
and massaged. We will continue with the therapies, all the while sending up lots of prayers that
they will help.
Maverick's front legs. The left front tendon(s) are healing contracted, as he
will not put full weight on his leg, or put his heel in contact with the ground.

Update October 30, 2006: While Maverick still favors his left front leg and the tendon is still
contracted, he is doing much better. He does not want his leg worked with except upon occasion,
so we are honoring his choice. To our great surprise (and delight!) Maverick has started running!
The first time he did so, we about dropped our teeth in surprise! Of course he makes sure to never
run when we have a camera around.

June 6, 2007: We've found an option that we hope will help Maverick's contracted tendon called
a Dynasplint. The Dynasplint company has graciously agreed to cut the cost of the Dynasplint to
$450. Maverick's other front leg is beginning to have problems from bearing all the weight that
should be evenly distributed between his front legs. The Dynasplint may be Maverick's only
option to heal and lead a normal life.

June 21, 2007: We have the splint for Maverick. Dynasplint is being absolutely wonderful to
work with and has agreed to accept payments on the rental of the splint. We received the splint on
the 13th and have already begun to see some changes in Maverick's leg.

July 8, 2007: We are continuing to see improvement in Maverick's legs.

December 11, 2007: Unfortunately Maverick has had several set backs recently with his legs.
He's broken several of the Dynasplints. Then in the time without the splint he has gotten
progressively worse. When he has the splint he makes excellent progress. He needs to be wearing
the splint for an average of 12 hours a day. To splint both legs in the same day for an adequate
amount of time, this means leaving the splint on over night, which seems to be when he is more
likely to break a splint. So we are renting a second one so both legs can be splinted at the same
time. This is another $450 and we still owe $200 for the rental of the first splint.

We are hoping that with both legs splinted at the same time, he will finally be able to get his legs
straightened out and to heal.
