For everyone the holistic diet can mean something different. It can range from feeding only
organic foods to just doing what you can to improve your horse's diet naturally. We happen to
fall into the later category. While we'd love to feed all organic foods to our horses, with no
chemicals such as pesticides on them, it is not financially possible. Instead here is what we do
within our budget to help make their diets healthier.

First off in our approach to feeding we feel the more chewing time they get, the healthier and
happier they are. In order to accomplish this we feed three times a day with grass hay. If they
are on a diet to keep weight on or to gain weight, their diet is supplemented with timothy
pellets. The brand we use contains no additives, preservatives, or binders. (For more

All the horses are fed flax seed which is rich in Omega-fatty acids and is excellent for
inflammation and general health. They are also fed NOMS (Naturally Occuring Mineral
Sources) produced by Advanced Biological Concepts. NOMS helps to control worms, but has a
side benefit that it's reduced the fly population around here.

Salt is extremely important, especially natural salt such as Redmond Salt or Himalayan Pink
salt. These are natural salts that haven't been processed or refined. This means they contain the
natural minerals found with salt.

Fruits, vegetables, Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, and herbs are all great ways to reconnect your
horse with nature. These all make great treats too instead of ones filled with molasses and other
sugars. Black Oil Sunflower Seeds (BOSS) are usually available at most feed stores, just make
sure to get the kind without any coating.
