| There are those of us called to tread upon a different path. Perhaps the words "blazing trails" might be a more accurate description than path. We cannot live our lives in bliss, simply going on our ways and trusting that someone else will solve the problems. Because those problem solvers are us. We see more pain and suffering than most can imagine. Unable to close our eyes, hearts, or minds to the plights of those in need; we live it all daily. Within us, an ever constant, burning need to remove the pain, sorrow, and suffering in those eyes staring back at us. The knowledge that this is a war we cannot win often burns in our minds. Our lives are never our own; filled always with one more who needs us, one more cruelty some human dreamed up, or another natural disaster we can't ignore. Burnout's high in this world of constant agony. The heartbreaks for those we can't save. Our pleas of help that all too often fall on deaf ears. But it's the ever burning hope to make a change. To touch just one life and leave it better. To leave a legacy that we made a difference. That is what keeps us going day after day and the reason we do what we do. This is my creed. |
